Hey friend,
I’m in Ireland! My daughter and I just landed last night and holy smokes, it is so beautiful here!
We made a pot of colcannon and a bunch of sausages for dinner and watched some episodes of Derry Girls to get in the mood of the place. (Yes, I know, Derry Girls is set in Northern Ireland, which is part of the UK and technically a whole different country, but we couldn’t get Bad Sisters to play for some reason, so we are practicing resourcefulness.)
Now we are off to see how many shades of green we can count, so this week’s post is a shorty.
I wanted to share a listy kind of poem that I wrote the other day. I’d woken up with a lusty hunger for everything that has ever brought me pleasure. Maybe by writing it out and sharing it with you, I am casting some sort of manifestation spell. At the very least, it is a trip for the imaginal senses.
All the things
I want a bed with a view. Bathtub, too. Good morning kisses and a hot dinner date. I want a first-class ticket around the world, with a lie-flat seat a walk in the woods a crackling fire melted cheese on top and a side of fries. I want to stretch my limbs stand up tall and feel the power in my back, my shoulders, my thighs. I want a bicycle in June a curving path and a canopy of blossoms. I want sharp eyes, a clear head, open arms, and a roomful of smiles. I want skylights a warm wood floor a table for twenty on the terrace. Picnics and potlucks badminton and beach balls. I want jazz in the park. Nine-foot canvases and a loaded palette, brushes of every shape and size. I want roast dinners and cold plunges birdsong and banana pancakes early mornings and afternoon naps. I want a cold dip in the sea and a brisk toweling off on hot sand. I want a fast car and slow talk. A strong shoulder, a steady hand, soft lips and a spacious heart. I want the feet of a dancer a sky full of stars a heavy blanket and a hot cup of tea. I want to be the oldest person left on earth. I want to be here when the lights go out. I want all the dragonflies to come to my funeral.
A free week of Gateless Writing Method in Terri Trespicio’s New Rules Studio!
One of the best gifts I ever gave my inner artist was a nine-month course in the Gateless Writing Method, a critic-free framework for activating creativity. In it, I found my authentic voice and became comfortable with writing from the gut or heart rather than from the torture chamber of my judgy rational mind.
If you want to try the Gateless Writing Method for yourself, my friend Terri Trespicio has an offer you won’t want to miss: She runs The New Rules Studio — a live, virtual, real-time writing program where several times a week people go to get their writing done. Sessions are led by Terri and her team of instructors, all of whom are certified in the Gateless Writing Method.
It’s a paid program, but for one week in August, she’s opening the doors for anyone to come experience for themselves, totally free.
Free Studio Week: Aug 11-15th

Each session features a powerful prompt to get you writing, and the structure of each session is designed to help you spark ideas you didn’t know you had.

Furies Tea Time Writer’s Club meets this Thursday!
Did you miss my post last week about my new six-week guided support group for women+ who write? Last week was the first meeting of The Furies Tea Time Writer’s Club, and it was amazing.
This is different from Terri’s thing, so come to both! In fact, they make a great combo. While the New Rules Studio is a place to get writing done, The Furies is a live coaching group to support you in removing the mental and emotional blocks to writing. Expect intimate space for sharing about your writing challenges, live creativity coaching with me, and prompts to take away and try in your creative practice.
We are meeting Thursdays at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST for the next five weeks. It’s drop-in and each session has a standalone theme, so if you missed the first one, don’t let that stop you from for one or all of the upcoming five sessions! One registration gets you access to the whole series.
